CCA brings in new members
The Commonwealth Cancer Association announced yesterday the election of its newest member on the CCA board: Nora R. Sablan, Alicia DLG Guerrero, and Cesar Dumatol. The CCA also re-elected to the board Roman “Bo” T. Palacios and Maria “Malua” T. Peter for two-year terms.
The elections were held at a meeting of the CCA board on Jan. 19, 2017, at the CCA conference room in Gualo Rai.
An election of CCA officers was also held, this time on Feb. 21, 2017. It saw the re-election of Palacios to serve as CCA president, Bobbi Grizzard as secretary, Sablan as vice president, and Dumatol as treasurer.
The CCA began as an alliance of volunteers in 2003. It became formally chartered and incorporated in 2008. In 2009, CCA achieved a tax-exempt status. It provides direct client assistance such as nutritional supplements and other personal needs, as well as certain types of medical equipment to individuals who are receiving treatment for cancer.
CCA also facilitates a monthly cancer survivors support group meetings, and engages in various awareness and outreach activities and has produced various educational publications such as brochures, fliers and DVDs.
The CCA organizes awareness events and engages in programs such as early screening and detection and patient navigation. CCA, in partnership with all seven dental clinics in the CNMI also offers free oral cancer screening for all ages.
