CCA brings in new member; ‘Bo’ Palacios elected president
The Commonwealth Cancer Association is pleased to announce the election of Frank C. Aguon as the newest member to the CCA Board of Directors. CCA also re-elected Lauri B. Ogumoro and Bobbi Grizzard for a two-year term. The general member elections was held at the meeting of the CCA Board of Directors last Jan. 21 at the CCA Conference Room in Gualo Rai.
The election of board officers was held last Feb. 16 and saw the election of Roman “Bo” T. Palacios to serve as its president, Maggie C. Camacho as vice president, Grizzard as secretary, and newly elected director Aguon as treasurer.
In 2003, the CCA began as an alliance of volunteers and became formally chartered and incorporated in 2008. And in 2009, CCA achieved a tax-exempt under 501 (c)(3), status and since then has providing direct client financial assistance for qualifying assistance such as nutritional supplements and other personal needs, as well as offers certain types of medical equipment e.g. hospital beds, wheelchairs, oxygen concentrator, etc. as prescribed by a locally licensed physicians in the CNMI to those individuals who are receiving treatment for cancer.
Also CCA facilitates monthly cancer survivors support group meetings, and CCA engages in various awareness and outreach activities and has produced various educational publications such as brochures, fliers and DVD’s for the islands’ diverse community. The CCA organizes community events such as cervical cancer, oral cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and lung and pancreatic cancer awareness, just to mention a few. The CCA also engages in programs such as early screening and detection, and patient navigation.
