Good news from the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs: The U.S. Department of Defense, through its Innovative Readiness Training program, will provide free medical and veterinary services to the people of the CNMI starting next week.

Serving as one of the guest speakers at yesterday’s Saipan Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan, CBMA special assistant Daniel Aquino said his office has successfully secured military medical support through DOD’s IRT program, which is a military training opportunity.

Dubbed as the 2023 Operation CNMI Wellness Mission Project, the campaign will provide members of the CNMI community on all three islands—Saipan, Rota, and Tinian—with medical and veterinary services, including optometry, dental, dietician, behavioral health, and general health public education.

As for the number of military personnel taking part in the IRT, Aquino said a total of 170 will be visiting the islands—120 on Saipan from July 11 to 20, 25 on Tinian from July 11 to 19, and 25 on Rota from July 11 to 19.

Aquino said the mission will take place from July 11 to 20, 2023 and will be executed in partnership with the U.S. Army Reserves, U.S. Air National Guard Reserves, the U.S. Air Force, U.S Army 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support), various military medical brigades along with the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Public School System, offices of the mayors of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, the Rota Legislative Delegation, CNMI Legislature, Saipan Boonie Babies, and Saipan Cares for Animals.

According to its website, IRT is a DOD training opportunity, exclusive to the United States and its territories, that delivers joint training opportunities to increase deployment readiness. Simultaneously, IRT provides key services (health care, construction, transportation, and cybersecurity) with lasting benefits for American communities. IRT depends on community partners to ensure mission success.

The community partner office of the CBMA will provide the locations for bed down (lodging), locations for training, and local resources such for transportation and meals (lunch), according to Aquino.
