Carolinian Utt set on fire

Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help for an arson incident that occurred at the Carolinian Utt on Beach Road, Garapan.

After midnight, 12:30am, Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, DPS Fire and Police personnel were dispatched to a reported structure fire located by the Carolinian Affairs Office. Upon arrival, police noticed one of the Utts was on fire, with flames rising up to 20 feet in the air. Fire suppression units were able to extinguish the fire while police canvassed the area for witnesses.

A witness did not see the actual fire being started but mentioned seeing several juvenile males a few blocks away from the crime scene, shouting out loud and being rowdy. The cost to build the hut was estimated to be over $3,000. The cost to repair the damage is estimated at over $1,000.

Employees reported criminal mischief incidents in the area a few weeks earlier. This included damage to the forklift used in the area. Someone poured water into the gas tank, causing engine problems that required repair. On another date, the battery of the forklift was stolen.
