The San Vicente Elementary School Canaries ruled the 2014 Pacific Islands Club Annual Dodgeball fundraising tournament for kids held last Saturday at the PIC tennis courts.
The Canaries swept their way to the finals after beating 2012 titlists Kagman Elementary School Blue Marlins, Oleai Elementary School Turtles 1, and 2013 champions Garapan Elementary School Mallards Quack Attack in the elimination round.
SVES faced Whispering Palms in the finals and defeated the Angry Birds to rule this year’s tournament.
SVES and Whispering Palms received $1,000 and $800 worth of sports equipment, respectively.
Whispering Palms also won the Best Banner, while the Canaries went home with the Best in Uniform award.
Other competing teams were the William S. Reyes Elementary School Kingfishers, OES Turtle 2, Koblerville Elementary School Umangs and the WPS Mad Piggies.
Pool play and seeding were played in the morning, while the elimination brackets started in the afternoon. All students in the 5th grade or below played in the one-day event
Teams were allowed to have 6 to 10 players each and they played each game for three minutes. Two girls from each squad must be inside the playing court. Each team had to eliminate as many players from the opposing side by hitting them with the dodgeball. The squad with the most number of remaining players after the three-minute time limit was declared the winner.
“Dodgeball really takes me back to my days of elementary school. I love seeing all the kids out on the court enjoying the same game I did as a kid,” said PIC Sports, Entertainment and Activities director and tournament director Glenn Policare.
