When did you last hear students of Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja recite poetry by heart? Maybe never—until last year when the school won the junior division of the 10th Annual Valentine N. Sengebau Poetry Competition held on Saipan.
In preparation for the 11th annual event, parents and guests gathered at As Paris Restaurant on Oct. 18, 2014, to listen, watch, and enjoy the Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja school level Valentine N. Sengebau Poetry Recital, and musical talent and literary performance.
Prior to the recital, five students from the junior high level recited their pick of Sengebau’s poetry to a panel of judges.

Introduced to the school by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council last year, the competition proved to be even a greater success this year with students scouring poetry anthologies from Sengebau.
The standard of recitals was very high this year, giving the judges a very difficult time. Well done to everyone in the school who took up the challenge and learned their poems and particularly to those in the finals who performed so well in front of us all.
The administration, students, faculty and staff, and board of directors would like to also express their appreciation to Councilman Gardner Barcinas, Gabriel and Angelica Manglona, and George Ayuyu. (ESFDB)
