Gov. Ralph DLG Torres had officially appointed Eliceo D. Cabrera to serve as the permanent administrator of the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality under the Office of the Governor.

“Eli has had years of extensive experience in the public sector, and I believe his passion for our environment and willingness to work with others will help him lead BECQ with success. His performance as the acting administrator has been positive, and he has built a good relationship with our local and federal folks in DEQ and CRM. It is only fitting that he becomes our full-fledged administrator for BECQ,” Torres said Wednesday.

Cabrera was appointed acting BECQ administrator on Sept. 30, 2017. A former House speaker in the 17th Legislature, he previously served as director of Parks and Recreation under the Department of Lands and Natural Resources from 2013 to 2017.

“I want to thank Gov. Torres for his official appointment to lead BECQ. I will continue to implement all ongoing projects and programs of BECQ while also ensuring that permit applications that comply with the rules are approved. Protecting our environment is our number one goal, and we continue to make sure that goal is met,” Cabrera said. (PR)
