Former Saipan seaport manager Antonio B. Cabrera has been nominated to serve as a member of the Commonwealth Ports Authority board of directors.

Gov. Arnold I. Palacios has also withdrawn his appointment of Vina Claire Saures Ayuyu to serve as a member of the Commonwealth Economic Development Authority board of directors representing Saipan, Northern Islands, and Carolinian community.

If confirmed by the Senate, Cabrera, who was nominated to represent Saipan and the Northern Islands on the CPA board, will serve the remaining term of Roman Tudela, which will expire on Oct. 7, 2023. Tudela resigned from the CPA board last January.

Palacios informed Senate President Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) that the nomination shall also serve as a re-appointment of Cabrera to serve a subsequent four-year term, which will expire on Oct. 7, 2027.

Regarding Ayuyu’s appointment, the governor did not indicate his reason for withdrawing her nomination. Palacios said a new nomination will be forthcoming.

Palacios nominated Ayuyu last May 18. (Ferdie de la Torre)
