The House Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications Committee decided yesterday to shelve a Senate joint resolution asking the governor to commence privatizing the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. now that CUC has issued request for proposals to help the CNMI move toward renewable energy.

“We will wait for the results of this RFP. There’s no need to rush the privatization,” House PUTC chairman Larry Deleon Guerrero (Ind-Saipan) told Saipan Tribune after the committee meeting yesterday afternoon.

The House PUTC panel, however, decided to recommend passage of Rep. Christopher Leon Guerrero’s (Cov-Saipan) bill authorizing management audit of CUC.

But Deleon Guerrero said the committee report has yet to be finalized so it won’t be acted on in today’s House session.

The Office of the Public Auditor also expressed its support to the CUC management audit bill, with proposed changes to it.
