Lunar New Year countdown at Fiesta Resort
Century Tours will be ringing in the Year of the Wooden Horse with a Lunar New Year countdown party Thursday night at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan South Beach.
Ed Arriola, Century Tours marketing manager, said the countdown bash on Jan. 30 at the Garapan landmark would feature a live band, a Polynesian show, kids games, and fireworks, among others.
“Century Tours wants to acknowledge our Chinese community on Saipan and the Chinese tourists who will be spending this special holiday on our islands via the usual China flights and the new charter flights that have just been launched. We’d also like to take this time to welcome the entire island to this event on Thursday night. It will be a few hours of Chinese culture,” he said.
The evening’s festivities will start with a cone shell blowing to greet off-island and local guests alike.
While being serenaded by the musical talents of David Chen, guests can munch on an island-style barbecue buffet and drink their favorite drinks at Fiesta Resort’s open bar.
Tasi & Aliis, a kung fu and Zumba demonstration, and a violin performance have also been lined up to entertain the crowd.
The evening’s celebration will be capped off by a grand fireworks display, with Chen again playing beautiful music in the background.
The Lunar New Year Countdown Party at Fiesta Resort costs $80 for adults and $40 for children between the ages of 4 and 11. Local resident discount applies. For reservations and inquiries, call 234-6414 Ext. 1548 or 1455, 233-6414 or 483-0462.
The Lunar New Year is an important traditional holiday celebrated on the first day of the year of the Chinese calendar.
In China, it is also known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. Lunar New Year celebrations traditionally run from New Year’s Eve, the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar.
