Community Briefs – Jan. 23, 2014
Love and turmoil: two words we don’t like to think about together. These words sometimes connect due to circumstances beyond our control. The many diverse relationships—lovers, married couples or friends with benefits—will appreciate Friend’s of the Arts February production of Rent. The show will be held at PIC Charley’s Cabaret on Feb. 28, March 1 and 2, 2014. All shows begin at 7pm.
Rent is a rock opera of sorts, inspired by the famous Italian opera by Puccini, La Bohème. In both musicals, the common theme is that love struggles against all odds to prevail. Join Friend’s of the Arts for an evening of music, color, dance, culture, and celebrate diversity! (FOA)

The Department of Public Safety will be blocking off the northern part of Saipan, from Marpi north, on Jan. 29, 2014, from about 12pm to 3pm, to dispose of a significant collection of unexploded ordnance that has been collected by the department’s Explosive Response Team.
We are requesting all visitors to these popular areas of the island to make arrangements to visit either in the morning before the 12pm deadline or after the operation has completed at 3pm.
Anyone with questions can contact the Explosives Response Team Operational Supervisor, Sgt. Anthony I. Macaranas at (670) 483-5818. (DPS)
