Rollers 1 gained two more wins over the weekend to keep its share of the lead with Rollers 3 in the boys division contest in the 2013 Sun Palace Christmas Basketball Tournament.

Rollers 1 edged Rollers 2, 61-60, last Friday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium and then downed Rollers 5, 64-59, last Saturday to improve to a 7-1 record. Rollers 3 has the same mark, following a 64-62 triumph over Rollers 4. The co-pacesetters lead Rollers 2 (6-2), FTMP (3-4), Rollers 4 (3-5), Dream Team (0-6), and Rollers 5 (0-7), pending results of last Monday’s matches.
Prince Factor canned a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to lift Rollers 1 to the close win, while Mike Arciaga delivered big baskets that helped the team recover in the second half. Rollers 1 was down by 7 points at the break, 23-30, but bounced back with Arciaga dropping 14 of his 18 points in the second half.

Against Rollers 5, Arciaga also top-scored for Rollers 1, finishing with 20 points. He connected on four triples, as Rollers 1 engaged Rollers 5 in a 3-point shooting with the former hitting 9 against the latter’s 8.

Factor had one of those triples in the first half, but his big contribution came down the stretch when he scored 4 of Rollers 1’s last 6 points.
Ylac Caracut converted five triples, making three straight in the closing minutes to threaten Rollers 1. He finished with a team-high 17 points, as Rollers 5 still searches for its first win after dropping its first seven games.

Meanwhile, Angelo Factor hit two free throws and scored 4 of Rollers 3’s last 5 points to oil Rollers 4’s upset bid.

Factor came to Rollers 3’s rescue after Rollers 4 came back from a double-digit deficit at halftime, 21-31. Christian Morales helped Factor spoiled Rollers 4’s bid, hitting timely baskets in the second half and firing a team-high 24 points.
