The Dolphins started their string of three victories in one night with a 51-24 rout of the Manta Rays in the ninth grade division. MHS held Southern to three field goals in the first game to earn the double-digit win.

Djaymarch Ong top-scored in the Dolphins’ second win in as many games in the ninth grade division after tallying 10 markers. He and Sam Darag led MHS’ offense in the first half to lift the team to a 23-7 halftime lead.

Eight other players made it to the board for MHS, while only six scored for Southern led by Elnathan Wong, who had a team-high 8 markers.

In the junior varsity game, the Dolphins also eased past the Manta Rays, 48-34.
Both teams had a sluggish start, drilling only two field goals apiece in the first quarter, but MHS picked up its scoring in the last three quarters, while Southern only logged twin digits in the payoff canto.

Ignacio Borja nailed 8 of his 12 points in the second quarter, turning the first-quarter deadlock, 5-all, to an 18-14 halftime lead. Then in the third quarter, Borja partnered with Ethan Manalili’s in giving MHS a twin-digit spread, 32-18.

Borja and Manalili went cold in the fourth, but Aaron Pamintuan was there to keep MHS’ safe distance, as he fired 8 of the Dolphins’ last 9 markers.

Completing MHS’ domination of Southern was its varsity team, which mauled the Rays, 90-52.
The Dolphins much deeper bench proved to be too much to handle for Southern, which again struggled to find the right combination on the floor to absorb its second loss in as many games. The Dolphins improved to a 2-0 record.

All the 11 players who suited up for the Dolphins scored at least 4 points apiece. Michael Yap led MHS’ balance scoring with his 20 markers, while Prince Factor and John John Capuyon contributed 13 and 11, respectively.

The Dolphins spread the wealth early for a 26-14 lead after the first quarter and by the end of the opening half, they pulled away further, 49-20, as Southern was limited to 6 points. The Manta Rays then made some headway in the third with their 10-0 scoring in the opening two minutes, but MHS recovered quickly to regain the comfortable lead.
