The Rotary Club of Saipan will be sending incoming president Richard Cody and community service director Reina Camacho to the Rotary International District Conference next month in Tokyo, Japan.

Rotary president Laila Y. Boyer made the announcement on Tuesday during their weekly meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.

The Rotary International District 2750 Conference is from Feb. 26 to 27 at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan.

Representatives of nine Rotary Club groups under District 2750 will be attending the event. The Rotary Club of Saipan is part of the Pacific Basin Group, which also includes Guam, Palau, Chuuk, and Pohnpei.

In other news, the local Rotary Club will be holding an invitation-only open house on Jan. 28 during its weekly meeting at the Hyatt.

Boyer said the “open house” is in line with Rotary International’s philosophy of expanding the membership of the civic group. During the event, those invited are expected to learn more about what Rotary is, what it stands for, and the activities it does throughout the course of the year.

The Rotary president also emphasized that those invited will not be given “automatic membership” as they would still have to be sponsored into the group.

Community service director Reina Camacho, meanwhile, announced that the local Rotary Club will be holding a mini-fundraiser on Feb. 8, dubbed “Love on the Run.”

The pre-Valentine’s event will involve running and biking and is being promoted as a family event.
