Two persons were injured when their car was hit by another vehicle near a lane blockage at a road construction site along Middle Road in front of Taro Sue Store in Gualo Rai yesterday morning.

The driver and his female passenger were brought to the Commonwealth Health Center for minor injuries.

The female driver of the car that hit the victims’ vehicle was cited for driving with an expired driver’s license, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Travis Hurst.

Hurst said police officers responded to the crash site at 10:44am and summoned DPS fire medics to the scene to treat the injured persons.

Hurst said police officers determined that a vehicle in the outer lane was merging to the inner lane due to the lane blockage. While merging, the car in the inner lane was passing and was struck on the passenger side.

Both vehicles had extensive damage and were towed from the scene. The road was later reopened.
