Inos hospitalized for ‘flu-like symptoms’

Gov. Eloy S. Inos has been hospitalized for what the administration described yesterday as “flu-like symptoms.”
“The governor is being treated for flu-like symptoms and may be discharged today,” press secretary Angel Demapan told Saipan Tribune yesterday when sought for comment on the governor’s admission to the Commonwealth Health Center.
Demapan said, “It’s the flu season after all.”
“Nonetheless, Gov. Inos continued to review and sign off on pertinent documents even while admitted. He is in good spirits today and is eager to get back home and back to work,” the press secretary added.
Saipan Tribune learned that the governor was hospitalized since Monday. He was on Rota over the weekend.
Months ago, Inos’ critics created noise about his ongoing dialysis treatment but the administration and his supporters said this has not hampered the governor’s ability to lead the CNMI in these trying times.
Previous governors received medical treatment while in office, including former governor Benigno R. Fitial who underwent surgery to correct spinal stenosis and was at times in a wheelchair but continued to govern and managed to get re-elected, among other things.
