225 Guam Guard soldiers arriving today in Guam

About 225 members of the Guam Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 294th Infantry Regiment are scheduled to arrive in Guam today, Jan. 13, 2014.
The battalion was mobilized in August 2012 for deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan. The unit left Guam in March of last year for Camp Shelby, MS, where they completed mobilization training prior to arriving in theatre.
Task Force Guam, which is the largest group of reserve component troops to be mobilized and deployed from Guam, provided a vital security force mission. The nearly 600 soldiers, spread out in seven units, were located at key locations throughout Afghanistan.
For the arrival and to ease the reunion between returning doldiers and their families, there will be canopies set up and designated by the doldiers’ unit. Family members are encouraged to find their respective canopy to wait for their soldier.
Note that this is an outdoor event, is very windy at times, will be very hot and there are no covered areas, seating or drinks provided; therefore, family members and the public should plan accordingly.
Additionally, airport officials are reminding the public that the area is an active runway and all in attendance must adhere to federal regulations and comply with the following: No smoking or vaping (electronic cigarettes); no alcohol; no animals; no hats; no balloons or any items that might be released into the air and become a hazard or danger to the aircrafts.
