Group picks local Girl Scouts as its community service project

Soroptimist International Northern Mariana Islands has picked the Girls Scouts of the CNMI as its first community service project.
The local Girl Scouts organization, which was revived a couple of years ago, was chosen by the local chapter of Soroptimist International so that it can equip its members with a positive self-image growing up.
“It’s absolutely necessary for our young girls to grow up with a positive self-image. Young girls with good self-esteem grow into strong mothers and providers, and pave the future as role models for other young girls,” said Soroptimist president Jill Arenovski.
She said their project will help members of Girls Scouts of the CNMI in two ways: First, Soroptimist volunteers will aid them with the project, showing them that they are worthy of time and attention, that strangers care about their futures, and that helping each other is the foundation for the future of all women. Second, Soroptimist will make a small scrapbook for the Girls Scouts of the CNMI to hold memories of their Girl Scouting adventures. Arenovski said the first page/section will be titled “About Me.”
“Our volunteers will work with each girl to select the attributes and values that each of them holds and make those words into a fun and meaningful page. The words (like helpful, considerate, kind, funny, outgoing, shy…) will help them see their own good attributes and will reinforce their good behaviors as they fill in the rest of the book.”
Arenovski said the tentative date for this community project with the Girls Scouts of the CNMI is Sunday, Jan. 19.
