The Roaring Twenties were alive and well Saturday night when Coffee & Jazz hosted a “Gastby” Party with close to 30 guests dressed to the nines in 1920s haut couture.

Operations manager Kayoko “Kay” Irinika said the event was inspired by the 2013 film Great Gatsby that starred Leonardo DiCaprio. The film was based on a novel of the same name by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Aside from 1920s fashion, guests also danced and swayed to the era’s dance music and were assisted by dance instructors especially hired by Coffee & Jazz for the event. DJ Fade manned the turnstiles and made sure the party got going until late in the evening.

“We actually had this type of party idea since last year and we thought it is perfect timing to cerebrate the New Year with a dress-up opportunity and with us calling in Russian tourists, too, at our perfect ambiance at Coffee & Jazz,” she said.

The “Gatsby” Party also had a Best Costume contest with Shelley Timmons getting the nod for having the most rip-roaring 1920s outfit of the evening. She bested 10 other equally deserving participants.

Aside from Russian tourists, a sprinkling of local residents also showed up for the “Gatsby” Party, some of them regulars of Coffee & Jazz’s Latino Night parties, added Irinika.

Guests snacked on tortilla chips and drank bottomless champagne and all sorts of wine and cocktails.
