Docomo Pacific, through its community organization Docomo Pacific Cares, raised $10,000 for victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which left more than 6,000 dead and more than 27,000 injured in the central Philippines in November.

Docomo general manager James Nelson said all proceeds generated from the campaign will be used to purchase much-needed medical supplies to assist the many victims of Haiyan.

“We’ve established an efficient channel for donations to this relief effort so medical supplies can be quickly distributed to those affected. We thank our partners and the community for their cooperation and support with this fundraising effort,” he said.

The raised funds were generated three ways—by Docomo customers texting “DONATE” to 4356, monetary donations dropped in boxes at Docomo offices, and Docomo employee donations and other in-house fundraising initiatives.

Nelson said this fundraising drive was also made possible by partners like KWAW-FM Magic 100.3, Sorenson Media Group, KKMP, Marianas Variety, United Filipino Organization, Consulate General of the Philippines and its Guam partners, Pacific Daily News, KTKB 101.9 Megamixx, Filipino Community of Guam, and the Ayuda Foundation.

UFO president Annamae Adaza praised Docomo and Nelson for raising a large amount of money that will help in the relief efforts for Haiyan victims.

“Wow, $10,000 is a huge amount. It only shows that a lot of people are still generous in sharing, knowing how hard things are nowadays when it comes to money. The Yolanda/Haiyan fund drive is not a one-time deal and we can still extend our help knowing it will take a long time to rebuild those structures and the livelihood of people affected back home. Once again, thank you to the whole CNMI community for all the support to all our fund drives as well as to all those companies like Docomo Pacific who initiated the collections.”
