4-year-old child donates books to ESFDB
What a New Year to start 2014 at Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja, thanks to the generosity of a 4-year-old child who donated books, board games, and sports equipment to ESFDB.
This is the first for ESFDB to receive a donation from such a young donor.
Eusebia Ana Hocog Flores, better know to families and friends as “Sebia,” was excited to make the donation, saying she wants the students of ESFDB to start reading at an early age and to share her love for reading.
“Reading at an early age is good and this is a great chance for me to share that joy,” said Sebia.
“During tough times, when schools are struggling, we have individuals and businesses out there that are willing to help. We are very fortunate that a child stepped up to make in-kind donations to our school,” said administrator/principal Carmen H. Atalig.
Since Atalig had been appointed to head the Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja, various individuals and businesses had been donating to the school, especially books. Her goal is to improve reading and provide the students with books that they can read for pleasure.
Atalig said, “Giving a child the gift of literacy is giving them a future,” and that is the mission she vows to continue at ESFDB.
“If you can change the landscape of an individual child, perhaps the landscape of the Luta community can change,” added Atalig.
“A huge thank you to Sebia! Your generosity amazed and delighted us. Thanks to you, the students of ESFDB will enjoy their new books, board games, and volleyball set,” said ESFDB board president Edward Maratita Jr.
“This is terrific coming from a young donor,” said ESFDB Student Council president Angelica Lucero. “She is setting an example and her donation will mean so much to our students.”
Sebia is a K4 student from Harvest Christian Academy in Guam. Her proud parents are Ace and Therese Hocog Flores of Yigo, Guam.
The administration, students, faculty and staff, and board of directors would like to express their appreciation to Sebia. Thank you, dangkulo na si yu’us ma’ase’, and maraming salamat po! (Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja)
