U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Michael G. Dana, director for Strategic Planning and Policy, U.S Pacific Command, visited Tinian on Sunday morning, Jan. 5, to meet with Tinian Mayor Ramon Dela Cruz, to view the facilities at Tinian West Field International Airport, Tinian Harbor, and Tinian’s leased lands.

Dana happened to arrive just as the last of the Marine Air Group 12 Marines were leaving, after having loaded the last their equipment used during Operation Forager Fury II.

During a luncheon meeting, the mayor expressed his desire to work with the Navy and the Marine Corps to reach a suitable agreement on how much military activity the small island could actually absorb. Coming on top of the visit of Brig. Gen. Steven L. Basham, director of Strategy, Plans, and Programs, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, everyone at the table expressed optimism that a successful plan can be created.
