Togawa takes December Ace

Yuko Togawa edged Sherlyn Jones in the scorecard tiebreak to win the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s December Ace of the Month title.
Togawa and Jones finished this month’s tournament held on the west course of the Laolay Bay Golf & Resort with similar net scores of 69. However, Togawa’s better scores on the front and back nines (41 and 33) allowed the 5-handicapper to prevail in the tiebreak. Jones, who sported a 13 handicap, had a 42 and 40 on the front nines, respectively, for a gross 82.
Joining Togawa and Jones in the Top 3 was Shiori Onoue, who also won in a tiebreak against Mio Kim. Onoue’s 40 and 39 and 4 handicap gave her a gross score off 79 and net of 75, tying Kim. The 14-handicapper Kim lost the tie after carding a 48 in the first nines holes and 41 in the last for a gross 89.
Other CWGA members who participated in the December tournament were Dolores Yamagishi (net 76), Terry Guerrero (76), Lorraine Babauta (79), Sun Suk Kim (80), Matilde Hocog (81), Kimike Abe (82), Mimi Castro (82), Jeon Me Ae (83), Pil Sun Kitami (78), and Noriko Togawa (73).
Though she recorded a field second-best net score of 73, Noriko Togawa missed the podium finish after failing to submit a complete scorecard. Kitami also turned over an incomplete scorecard to land out of the Top 10.
CWGA ranked its members in every tournament as points are awarded to each member after the monthly competition. Fifteen points are given to the No. 1 finisher and 14 and 13 to the runner-up and third placer, respectively. Multiple points are given up to the Top 10 finisher, while players missing the cut are awarded one point. At the end of the season (March), the golfer with the most points is recognized at the awards ceremony.
