The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management issued a high surf advisory yesterday, warning the public of dangerous surf that is expected to last until Wednesday.

The high surf advisory is now in effect until 6pm Wednesday.

“A long period north swell generated by a large storm east of Japan will continue to arrive for the next several days and maintain high surf along north facing reefs. For these exposures hazardous surf of 8 to 10 feet will continue until Wednesday. Surf is expected to subside below hazardous levels by Thursday.”

The public and inexperienced mariners are advised to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially those along north facing reefs as rip currents are life threatening. (PR)
