Mariana Resort, PWS introduce iPad wine list
The wine list at Mariana Resort & Spa’s 12th Night Restaurant has gone paperless after the hotel’s F&B division teamed up with Pacific Wine & Spirits, Inc. to introduce an iPad wine list.
PWS sales coordinator Aileen Labadnoy said they have provided the outlet’s wait staff with four iPads that they can use to show customers the types of wines available at the restaurant.
She said the use of an iPad wine list at the 12th Night Restaurant is a pilot project and, if successful, PWS will introduce the new technology in other restaurants and establishments around the island.
Aside from the wines’ origin, information on the iPad wine list includes its vintage, cost, and the kind of wine a customer has chosen.
Guam Food Guy Ken Stewart said the introduction of an iPad wine list at Marianas Resort is an acknowledgment that even on Saipan, customers have become tech savvy, which is one of the reasons that iPad menus have become popular worldwide.
Stewart is the general manager of Tools of the Trade, which is the sister company of PWS.
Mariana Resort executive chef William Retardo thanked Labadnoy and PWS owner and president Daniel Matsuno for choosing 12th Night Restaurant as the first outlet on Saipan to offer an iPad wine list.
He said the mobile technology will not only give customers more details on the wine they’re selecting but also help his wait staff provide the information to customers easier.
Meanwhile, Matsuno and the entire PWS staff from Guam held their company Christmas party at 12th Night Restaurant last Dec. 13.
Aside from footing the bill for the sumptuous five-course dinner, Matsuno also shouldered the airfare of all 17 PWS staff and their families from Guam to Saipan, Labadnoy said.
She said Matsuno’s gesture indicates that business is doing well, adding that holding a Christmas party on Saipan has long been a dream by the PWS owner. Labadnoy said the CNMI accounts for a quarter of PWS’ business and that the future is looking bright for the islands because of its improving tourism industry.
