US Senate passes FY 2014 Defense budget bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-GU) issued Friday the following statement on Senate passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014. “I applaud the Senate for passing the defense authorization bill,” said Bordallo. “The bill makes significant progress in the realignment of Marines from Okinawa to Guam and Air Force programs on Guam. The bill underscores the United States’ commitment to the rebalance to the Asia-Pacific region by putting real resources to programs that are strategically important to the U.S. posture in the Asia-Pacific region. The bill provides the resources to ensure our forces are properly trained, equipped, and manned, all of which are the essence of military readiness. The defense authorization bill is must pass legislation and I’m glad the Senate acted quickly to pass the legislation without amendment. I appreciate the support of Chairman Buck McKeon, Ranking Member Adam Smith, Chairman Carl Levin and Ranking Member Jim Inhofe in developing this compromise legislation. I also appreciate the support of Governor Calvo and the Guam Legislature in advocating for provisions important to the realignment of Marines from Okinawa to Guam.”
