Enough is enough!

I want to address this letter to Sen. Ralph Torres and Sen. Ray Yumul who cowardly killed the Saipan casino bill a few weeks back on Rota. I say cowardly because they cannot face the people of Saipan—who put them into office—that they do not support the Saipan casino bill. They had to hide in the sabanas of Rota to do so. The Saipan casino bill provides a funding source to settle all unpaid land compensation to hundreds of landowners whose properties were stolen by the CNMI government and are benefiting the citizens of the CNMI, to include our visitors and tourists. The lands were stolen because the government took these lands without “just compensation.” It seems that once the leaders are voted into office, their memories immediately evaporate into thin air (amnesia). When they campaign, the issue is always raised to resolve them once and for all.

To all landowners whose lands were stolen, do not have short memories and vote all those leaders out of office if they cannot offer solutions to your problems. Their plan to resolve the issue must be very clear and achievable. Unless you consistently raise this issue, they will never go away. Don’t forget, politicians’ memories are very short-lived!

As to Sens. Ralph Torres and Ray Yumul, please disclose your economic plan of action and your solid proposed revenue source to address this issue once and for all!

I am a resident of Saipan and have great pity for the landowners who have waited years or decades to be justly compensated. A lot of the landowners have passed away or are very sick but never had the chance to reap their hard work toiling the lands to homestead.

I pray to all that we will have leaders that can take good care of their citizenry and not make them suffer! Enough is enough!
