Man who used 3 minors to steal gets 21-day sentence

A man accused of using three minors to steal cash and items from a store in Chalan Kanoa has pleaded guilty and was slapped with a 21-day prison sentence.
Alexander Dueñas, 24, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to theft as part of a plea deal.
Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced him to a year in prison, all suspended except for 21 days, with credit for 21 days of time served. He was placed on supervised probation for three years.
Dueñas was required to pay a $25 court assessment fee, probation fee to be assessed later, and $300 in restitution to the owners of Bobby Market. In addition, he was ordered to perform 120 hours of community service.
The Office of the Attorney General had charged Dueñas with theft and conspiracy to commit theft. The conspiracy charge was later dropped.
According to Chief Prosecutor Shelli Neal, Dueñas conspired with 18-year-old Flare Ngirutoi and a minor to steal two digital cameras, cash, and other items from Bobby Market on July 21, 2013.
Neal said that Ngirutoi stole a digital camera, $20 cash, and a Playstation from the same store on July 21, 2013, and July 23, 2013.
A police detective stated in his report that Duenas and Ngirutoi and three other juveniles stole two digital cameras, two Nintendo DS, and one PS Vita game—all worth $1,594.98—and an undetermined amount of cash from Bobby Market.
Police said footage of the surveillance camera showed that one suspect would distract the store’s cashier while the other suspects would steal the items.
