FHB employees in Guam, CNMI give $19.9K to charities

HAGÅTÑA, Guam—First Hawaiian Bank employees in Guam and the CNMI pledged $19,941 for local charities during the bank’s recent Kokua Mai employee giving campaign, according to an announcement yesterday by Laura-Lynn V. Dacanay, senior vice president, Guam and CNMI region manager.
“Since its 2007 inception, our Kokua Mai employee giving campaign has raised over $130,000 for charities on Guam and CNMI,” said Dacanay. “We have been able to achieve close to a 100 percent employee participation rate each year because our employees care deeply about their communities and are very generous with their time and talents to support nonprofits.”
“The Ayuda Foundation would like to thank the employees of First Hawaiian Bank and the Kokua Mai Campaign for their donation,” said Carlotta Leon Guerrero, Ayuda Foundation executive director. “The money was used to help fund our operations for Island Girl Power, an afterschool program for girls 7-14. We rely on fundraising efforts, grants, and corporate support so that we can keep our program activities free since so many of our girls come from financially strapped families. During this past year we underwent a renovation at our clubhouse and added two new units at our Dededo location along YsengSong road. We also added another location for Island Girl Power in Malesso. Thank you again for helping us to help our young girls to navigate healthy lifestyles.”
First Hawaiian Bank administers the annual fundraising campaign to ensure that 100 percent of employee donations go directly to local charities. The online giving program is completely run by employees. This year’s four-week campaign ran from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 with employees conducting department fundraisers throughout to benefit 36 charities in Hawaii, Guam and the CNMI.
