Palacios gets 14 mos. for beating up a man, his pregnant girlfriend

Bradley Delos Reyes Palacios was slapped with a 14-month jail term without the possibility of parole for beating up a man and his then-pregnant girlfriend in separate incidents.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo sentenced the 21-year-old Palacios last week to a year in prison, all suspended except for 60 days, for assault and battery over the beating of a man.
Govendo sentenced Palacios to a year in prison to be served without the possibility of parole, for assault and battery over the beating of his girlfriend.
The judge said the sentences shall run consecutively. This means the total prison term is 14 months. He was given credit for 200 days of time served in the two cases.
Upon his release, Palacios will be placed on supervised probation. He was ordered to pay a $300 fine, $300 probation fee, and $25 court costs. He was also required to perform 200 hours of community service and to participate in anger management counseling. He is barred from possessing or consuming any alcoholic beverages during his probation.
Palacios pleaded guilty to assault and battery in both cases as part of a plea deal.
He was represented by attorney Sheila Trianni. The government was represented by assistant attorney general James McAllister.
According to court records, Palacios and co-defendant Kevin Esteves fought with John Hamilton at the Ace Pool Bar on Dec. 1, 2011, on Saipan, punching him and causing injuries needing hospital treatment.
In the other case, Palacios was supposed to take his then 8-month pregnant girlfriend to her doctor’s appointment on June 5, 2013, on Saipan but, instead of heading to the Commonwealth Health Center, he drove the vehicle in the opposite direction. Despite her repeated requests to turn around, Palacios refused, got angry, and began hitting her, resulting in her injuries. The victim never made it to her doctor’s appointment.
