Bank of Guam warns of potential phishing scam

[B]HAGATNA, Guam[/B]—Bank of Guam is urging island residents to exercise additional vigilance this holiday season with the growth of potential phishing scams.
“Phishing” is an attempt to steal your personal information such as usernames, passwords, and account details by an unknown party pretending to be a trustworthy entity.
Email messages purporting to be from Bank of Guam with the subject matter “Important Notice for IFITonline® Commercial Users” have been sent to numerous island residents, including both Bank of Guam customers and non-customers. Bank of Guam has identified this to be a phishing scam.
The following online security best practices are being reminded by Bank of Guam:
– Bank of Guam will never ask you to validate your personal information outside of our secure channels (i.e., in the branch, over the phone, upon secure login to online banking). You should be suspicious of any email or online site that requests you to do so.
– When using IFITonline, you must enter through the Bank’s official website homepage: https://www.bankofguam.com. All other links that direct you to an unfamiliar page should be treated as suspicious.
– Once you have logged into Bank of Guam’s online banking, the URL will change to https://online.ifitbanking.com. Anything other than this should be treated as suspicious and you should not proceed.
