The Eastern Lighting earned its second win in the 2013 CFLA Youth Football Warrior/Midget League after whipping the Northern Saints, 48-12, last Saturday at the Airport Field.

The Lightning held the Saints scoreless in the second half and drew another steady game from quarterback Donavin Ada to improve to a 2-0 record. The Lightning got its first win against the Southern Thunder, 40-34, last Dec. 7, while the Saints dropped the league opener versus the Thunder, 14-24.

Ada took over for the Lighting early in the game as after a pass to wide receiver Matthew Kapileo for a 30-yard gain, the quarterback scored on a 15-yard touchdown in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Ada and Kapileo partnered anew with the former feeding the latter for a 65-yard TD. Ada added two more points on a 10-yard conversion.

The Lighting then got its third TD, courtesy of runningback Kermenes Terry’s five-yard touchdown. Before Terry scored, Ada made another perfect pass to tight end Kimo Angailen for a 37-yard gain, while linebacker Austin Ada ran for a 20-yard gain. Angailen also had a 32-yard gain in the closing minutes of the second quarter off Donavin Ada’s pass, paving the way for a 10-yard touchdown of running back Vincent Laniyo. With four TDs in the first half, the Lightning took a 26-12 advantage (the match report of the Lightning-Saints tiff provided to Saipan Tribune did not indicate details of the latter’s scoring).

After scoring the last TD for the Lightning in the first half, Laniyo picked up where he left off as he rushed for a 13-yard gain, while Kapileo followed it up with a 15-yard gain off another pass from Donavin Ada. Despite moving forward, the Lightning failed to score and so did the Saints, as according to Lightning officials there were too many penalties and the 12-minute playing time quickly expired.

Following a fruitless third quarter, the Lightning attacked early with Donavin Ada throwing to Angailen for a 40-yard gain. The Lightning then gained 19 more yards, courtesy off Terry, who gained seven more yards in the ensuing play, while Laniyo rushed for a 10-yard gain. The Lightning quarterback went on to complete the team’s offense by rushing for a 20-yard TD and scoring a 10-yard two-point conversion.

Now up at 34-12, the Lightning showed no mercy to the Saints, getting two more TDs and a two-point conversion. Austin Ada handed the Lightning its sixth TD with his 48-yard touchdown off a pass from Donavin Ada. Austin Ada’s TD was set up with the Lightning earning yards on four occasions. Terry rushed for a 14-yard gain, followed by a six-yard gain from linebacker Jose Camacho, while runningback Wuinton Deleon Guerrero sprinted for 15-yard and 10-yard gains.

Not to be outdone in the ensuing play after Austin Ada scored was Donavin Ada, who rushed for 27 yards, leading the way for a Camacho 53-yard touchdown. Donavid Ada and Kapileo connived anew to finish the play with a 20-yard two-point conversion.
