Man gets 6 mos. prison term for shouting at neighbor

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho has imposed a six-month prison term on a man accused of beating up and attacking a neighbor with a screwdriver but who pleaded guilty only to disturbing the peace.
Camacho on Wednesday ordered the 58-year-old Joseph Juan M. Dela Cruz to serve the six months in prison without parole. Dela Cruz was given credit for time served.
The Office of the Attorney General had charged Dela Cruz with assault and battery and disturbing the peace.
He pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace as part of a plea deal. He is represented by assistant public defender Benjamin Petersburg.
According to court papers, Dela Cruz confronted John F. Faisao on June 4, 2013, along a road on Saipan.
Two police officers later found Faisao lying on the ground with blood covering his face, according to the report of police detective Jesse K. Seman.
The right side of Faisao’s face was swollen and he could not open his right eye. He received stitches inside his mouth and was admitted to the Commonwealth Health Center.
Seman said the preliminary investigation showed that Faisao was walking from his residence in Susupe Lake on his way to work when he passed by Dela Cruz’s house. Dela Cruz shouted at Faisao but the latter ignored him. Dela Cruz approached and allegedly punched the victim on the face and hit him several times with a screwdriver’s handle.
When the victim fell to the ground, Dela Cruz kicked him repeatedly.
Faisao told police that he and Dela Cruz had personal issues in the past. (Ferdie de la Torre)
