Bangladesh community to mark Victory Day
The Bangladesh community on Saipan will celebrate their country’s Victory Day on Dec. 16, Monday, at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center Theater, from 6:30pm to 10pm. There will be a program that will feature songs, dances, and other performances.
After 10pm, there will be a get-together at the Micro Beach Pavilion, behind Hyatt Regency Saipan in Garapan.
The event is being sponsored by Toha Supermarket and Asia Marine Sports. Helping organize this event are secretary Habib Ullah Badal, coordinator Zahidul Islam, and Tarun.
According to Wikipedia, Victory Day is a national holiday in Bangladesh celebrated on Dec. 16 to commemorate the victory of the Allied Forces High Command over the Pakistani forces in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. The commanding officer of the Pakistani Forces, Gen. AAK Niazi, surrendered his forces to Allied Forces commander Lt. Gen. Jagjit Singh Aurora, which ended the nine-monthlong Bangladesh Liberation War and official secession of East Pakistan into Bangladesh.
