Two sisters of alleged victim say she is capable of lying

Two sisters of the alleged victim testified for Alfredo E. Reyes, a 51-year-old man who is on jury trial for allegedly sexually abusing the then 16-year-old girl thrice in 2009.
The alleged victim’s sisters took the witness stand yesterday afternoon as the defense’s first witnesses, soon after the prosecution rested its case.
Assistant public defender Michael Sato is counsel for Reyes.
The defense is expected to call more witnesses when the trial resumes this morning, Thursday.
The sisters basically testified that they believe that the alleged victim is capable of lying and that she was indeed lying about the allegations against Reyes.
After the alleged victim completed her testimony yesterday, assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda called the stepmother of the alleged victim to the witness stand. After her testimony, Cepeda rested the government’s case.
Sato then moved for a judgment of acquittal. He also moved to dismiss three counts of child abuse.
Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho denied the motion for judgment of acquittal, but granted the motion to dismiss three counts of child abuse.
The remaining charges that the jury will decide on are three counts of sexual assault of a minor in the first degree and three counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.
Camacho will decide on the misdemeanor charges of three counts of assault and battery, and three other charges.
