Woman gets 3-day sentence for hitting boyfriend
A woman was slapped yesterday with a three-day prison term for hitting her boyfriend thrice on the head with a frying pan during an argument over cell phone usage.
Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Kathleen L. Beri to one year in prison, all suspended except for three days, for assault and battery.
Beri, 21, was given credit for the two days of time served. She will start serving the remaining one day on Dec. 20.
Beri is required to pay up to $200 for medical costs incurred by her boyfriend at the Commonwealth Health Center.
She was also required to undergo anger management counseling and write a letter of apology to the victim.
The Office of the Attorney General had charged Beri with assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. She pleaded guilty to assault and battery as part of a plea deal. She was represented by attorney Tiberius Mocanu.
Beri got into a physical scuffle with her boyfriend about his cell phone use on Sept. 17, 2013, on Saipan. After the boyfriend punched her face causing a slight swelling on her right temple, she hit him over the head with a frying pan three times. The boyfriend sustained no visible injuries.
