UOG lecture series to feature Tony Babauta

The 21st speaker in the University of Guam Presidential Lecture Series is Anthony “Tony” M. Babauta, former Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Insular Affairs, U.S. Department of the Interior. His lecture, titled “Federal Policy Making In the Nation’s Capital: An Agat Boy’s Perspective,” will take place at 3:30pm on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the UOG College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Lecture Hall.
“It’s a great opportunity for our students and the university community to hear from someone who has advocated for Guam in the highest levels of the Obama administration,” said UOG president Dr. Robert Underwood.
While at UOG, Babauta will also be visiting and guest speaking in classes.
Babauta served as President Barack Obama’s Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Insular Areas from September 2009 to February 2013. In this position, he oversaw the federal administration of the U.S. territories of Guam, the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa. His responsibilities also included the financial and political oversight of the Compacts of Free Association relationship between U.S. and the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
Babauta was instrumental in the Presidential Executive Order re-establishing the Interagency Group on Insular Areas. [I](UOG)[/I]
