Trashing the Constitution

It was reported here in the Saipan Tribune that Jesus Taisaque’s motion to stop the unconstitutional pillaging of his retirement benefits by our government was denied. I’m sure that some precedence of law applied to the case that Jesus filed. But, again, we have been misled, lied to, and robbed. When pointed out that Taisague only lost 25 percent of his money, he asserted that nothing can stop the government from later electing to stop providing his retirement benefits. What is grossly misleading is that a judge, sworn to uphold the Constitution, said in response, “This is possible, to be sure.”

What about “Commonwealth Constitution: Article III Executive Branch Section 20: Retirement System. a) Membership in an employee retirement system of the Commonwealth shall constitute a contractual relationship. Accrued benefits of this system shall be neither diminished nor impaired.”

I guess the very law that created the Governor’s Office isn’t a law that can stop the governor from stealing retirees’ money. Nowhere does Judge Gatewood say or imply the governor is breaking the CNMI Constitution. The very same Constitution and even the very section that created the office he now abuses!

Are we supposed to take this as the U.S. District Court judge tacitly accepts the fact that our government operates illegally, refuses to acknowledge the Constitution, continues to steal 25 percent of the retirees’ pensions, and that’s OK? Many don’t remember when the old Legislature building was burned down because the politicians were not listening to the people. Remember, because that also is a precedence.

If we don’t rally behind Jesus Taisague right now and help him defend our Constitution against the governor and all who take part in violating it, then we deserve the servitude we will get when the Emperor trashes the rest or our Constitution.
