Alleged victim testifies how Reyes sexually abused her thrice

The alleged victim took the witness stand in Superior Court yesterday at the start of the jury trial of Alfredo E. Reyes, a 51-year-old man accused of sexually abusing the woman thrice in 2009 when she was just 16 years old.
The alleged victim, who is now 20 years old, said the first incident happened one night in May 2009, when, instead of bringing her to a store, Reyes took her to Laulau Beach.
While there, she said, Reyes accused her of having sex with another person. When she denied this, he slapped her in the face. She said Reyes then told her he would check if she was still a virgin, then sexually abused her inside his pickup truck that was parked near the beach’s pavilion.
“I was crying, telling him to stop. I was pushing him,” the alleged victim said, adding that she felt pain in her privates.
A few months later, about September 2009, Reyes allegedly brought the victim to a beach at Coral Ocean Point where he accused her of the same issue he raised at Laulau Beach, then sexually abused her.
She said she noticed that Reyes has a big tattoo in his upper thigh.
The last incident allegedly happened two to three months later in the jungle area by the Hawaiian Rock Co. where the defendant sexually abused her again.
When Saipan Tribune left the courtroom yesterday afternoon, assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda was still cross-examining the alleged victim. Assistant attorney general Heather P. Barcinas is assisting Cepeda in the trial.
Before the alleged victim’s testimony, the prosecution called police detective Therese Kintoko, who is the lead investigator in the case, and the mother of the alleged victim.
Assistant public defender Michael Sato is counsel for Reyes, who is facing charges of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, and another offense.
Assistant public defender Matthew Meyer is assisting Sato as counsel for the defendant. Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho is presiding.
