Docomo Pacific presented yesterday a $5,000 check to the United Filipino Organization, representing the telecommunications company’s sponsorship of the group’s slew of events throughout the year, including this Saturday’s “Paskong Pinoy” at the Garapan Central Park.

“It’s just part of our annual partnership with UFO for their three major events of the year—the Pusong Pinoy in February, the Pistang Pinoy in June, and the Paskong Pinoy for Christmas. We’ve really been strong supporters of UFO now. I think it’s our second or third year,” said Docomo Pacific general manager James Nelson.

UFO president Annamae Adaza said the umbrella organization of Filipino groups on Saipan is once again thankful for Nelson and Docomo’s generosity.

“We are so grateful for the many years Docomo Pacific has been so supportive of our group. Every year Docomo has always extended a sponsorship of $5,000,” said Adaza.

When asked why Docomo doesn’t hesitate to sponsor groups like UFO, Nelson said it is because the company sees that whatever they donate to these groups always go to a good cause.

“They do a lot of good for the community. They’re about giving to the community rather than the opposite. Anytime you have an organization such as UFO, the Red Cross, the Rotary, and other non-profits giving out to the community, as a corporate citizen you want to try and support them as much as you can. We do the same for Red Cross and other organizations because we feel that it’s part of the company’s responsibility to help non-profits accomplish their goals,” said Nelson.

The Docomo official also invited everyone to attend this Saturday’s Paskong Pinoy celebration at the Garapan Central Park.

“Paskong Pinoy is a huge Christmas celebration and it’s a lot of culture, music, and dancing. This year I know UFO and Annamae will be putting together a beautiful program. The past couple of Paskong Pinoys I’ve been to have always been well attended. I encourage the general public to come down and visit and enjoy Paskong Pinoy this year. It’s a tremendous show and it’s a tremendous experience.”

Adaza acknowledged that ever since Docomo became a major sponsor of the group’s activities several years back, it has been smooth sailing budget-wise for UFO. “When Docomo started sponsoring the UFO, things have been easier to work on because we now have a budget, unlike before when we were always short and owe a lot of vendors.”

Adaza also urged the community to take part in Paskong Pinoy this Dec. 14. She said that Gov. Eloy S. Inos has confirmed his attendance at the event.

The Aging Center’s congregates—the man’amko—will also take part and have already promised to sing five Christmas carols.
