Babauta is SGA November Ace

Juan L. Babauta won the November Ace of the Month Tournament of the Saipan Golfers Association held last Nov. 17 at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo.
Babauta actually placed third after firing a net of 71 but won after first placer Jung Eun Teack and second placer Steve Balakrishna already won tournaments earlier in the year.
The Commonwealth Cancer Association executive director carded a gross of 82 (42-40) but finished with a 1-under score after his 11 handicap was deducted.
Teack shot a 41 in the front nine before improving by two strokes in the back for a gross score of 80. Minus his 13 handicap, he finished with a month’s lowest core of 67 net to best 16 others competitors.
Balakrishna shot a 70 net built around a 77 gross. He shot 39 and 38 in the front and back, respectively.
With the November win, Babauta joins Teack (October), Rick Kautz (September), Greg Sablan (August), Ray San Nicolas (July), John “Nani” Cruz (June), Nick Sablan (May), Ray Dela Cruz (April), Steve Balakrishna (March), James Whang (February), and Ed Sablan (January) for SGA’s yearend Ace of Aces tournament.
In the longest drive competition, Matt Chargualaf won in hole No. 17 and Ed Manibusan in hole No. 18.
The par 3s were secured by James Whang (No. 6), Larry Deleon Guerrero (No. 8), Ed Manibusan (No. 12), and John “Nani” Cruz (No. 15).
SGA’s Ace of Aces tournament will be played on Dec. 14 and 15 at a yet-to-be-determined venue. The awards banquet is tentatively set for Jan. 11, 2014. (Saipan Tribune)
