Matson, LBC ship relief supplies to PH
GUAM—Matson is partnering with the LBC Foundation in delivering donated typhoon relief goods to the Philippine Red Cross.
Matson will provide free shipping services from Hawaii and Guam to Manila, transporting container loads of relief goods donated to the LBC Foundation. The shipments will be distributed by the Philippine Red Cross to locations affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan.
“There has been a very generous effort in our communities in Hawaii and Guam to donate relief goods to those who have been devastated by Super Typhoon Haiyan,” said Vic Angoco, senior vice president, Pacific, Matson. “Matson wants to support the relief effort by providing our shipping expertise at no cost. While we do not serve the Philippines, we can transport the supplies in our containers and on our Hawaii and Guam vessels to Asia, where they’ll be transshipped.”
LBC USA / LBC Foundation will consolidate the donated goods they have received and load them into containers. Matson will ship up to one million pounds of goods.
“On behalf of all the Filipinos affected by the super typhoon, we would like to thank Matson for contributing to this global relief effort,” said Patricia Garcia, brand head, North America, LBC Mundial Corporation. “It will go a long way and will make a difference in the lives of those affected.”
