Inos upbeat about today’s kickoff of Micronesian chiefs summit

Micronesian presidents and governors will kick off today the three-day 19th Micronesian Chief Executives Summit that will take on issues of common concerns and solutions. Gov. Eloy S. Inos is upbeat on the cooperation by the region’s leaders.
“I’m really excited. …We’ve got a lot of things to discuss that affect our region. But most of all I look forward to the cooperation of each jurisdiction; I think it’s going to be a good one,” Inos said.
Among the topics on agenda are climate change, tourism, healthcare, shark conservation, and human trafficking.
Inos said he is also looking forward to the Association of Pacific Islands’ Legislature’s presentation on the concept of a regional health insurance coverage.
The opening ceremonies will be at 1pm today at Fiesta Resort & Spa in Garapan.
In all, there will be three presidents and five governors and one lieutenant governor from all around Micronesia on Saipan for the summit.
The summit will bring together Marshall Islands President Christopher J. Loeak, Federated States of Micronesia President Emanuel Mori, and Palau President Tommy Remengesau Jr.
They will be joined by the CNMI’s Inos, Guam Gov. Eddie B. Calvo, Yap Gov. Sebastian L. Anefal, Pohnpei Gov. John Ehsa, Chuuk Gov. Johnson S. Elimo, and Kosrae Lt. Gov. Carson Sigrah.
