GUAM—Guam Sen. Michael F.Q. San Nicolas announced yesterday that his office will be accepting donations to aid in the relief efforts for residents of the Republic of Belau affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Nearly a month ago, the storm passed through Micronesia and caused severe damage to parts of Belau, particularly the northern state of Kyangel, before intensifying into a Supertyphoon and causing great devastation in the Philippines. According to the Belau Bureau of Public Health, there were no reported deaths as a result of the storm. However, many homes were destroyed or badly damaged.

“Our brothers and sisters in Belau have also suffered from the recent storm that devastated the Philippines,” said San Nicolas. “While mobilizing to help our Filipino brothers and sisters, we need to also do what we can to extend help to our neighbors in Belau.”

Any donations, monetary or otherwise, may be dropped to the Office of Senator San Nicolas, located in the main Legislature building in Hagatna. San Nicolas will be working with the Belau Consul General’s Office to ensure that the aid gets to where it is most needed. (PR)
