Turkey Trot Fun Run steals show
The 35th Annual Turkey Trot Fun Run was the most anticipated competition on Saipan last week.
The early morning event from the Lower Base to the Mt. Tapochao drew more than 130 runners from all ages with veteran Mamiko Oshima-Berger and returnee Charlie Sendin leading the winners list of the 4.2-mile race. Sendin completed the race in 39:45 to take the overall No. 1 spot, while Oshima-Berger was the first female finisher after checking in at 42:10.
Other top finishers in their respective age groups were the men’s division’s Anthony Fruit, Angelo Jones, Bo Palacios, Aaron, and Cesar Danao, and the women’s field’s Amy Sletten, Conatsu Kaga, Gabrielle Race, Pipit Ball, Chiharu Sato, and Irma Halaby.
In other events last week, Armatech eliminated Pacific Islands Club in the UFO Masters caging, while the league-leading Blue Haus moved a win away from sweeping the double-round robin elimination after downing Shakir Realty at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
Over at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court, San Antonio prevailed against Maplas to boost its bid for an outright quarterfinals bid, while Saipan Ice also won its game against Chinatown to remain in contention in the playoff round of the DL Corp. caging.
At the Oleai Sports Complex Field, MP United U18 and Tan Holdings FC advanced to the finals of the 2013 FA Youth Challenge Cup. MP United U18 drew a bye in the first round and then defeated sister team MP United U15 in the semis to notch the first finals seat in the FA Challenge Cup. Tan Holdings won over Matansa FC and Paire FC to bag the second and last finals ticket.
Still in football, the CNMI Women’s National Team barged into the win column in the M-League after beating Shirley’s FC, 4-2. Also recording wins in the M-League last week were the Tan Holdings FC, Inter Godfather’s, Sun Palace, and Kanoa FC.
In badminton, Community Badminton Club and Shirley’s Badminton Club won their opening assignments in the 7th Traders Insurance Team Tournament at the TSL Sports Complex.
CBC recorded a 20-10 victory against the Golden Racquets, while Shirley’s prevailed against Taga Badminton Club, 26-4. Also competing in the annual tournament is back-to-back champion Saipan Badminton Club.
