Times have changed
In a recent conversation with Rep. Tony P. Sablan, we talked about issues confronting us in the Commonwealth. We discussed matters with regards to we as Carolinians and Chamorros living together as U.S. citizens. As we talked, we evaluated our existence and agreed that it is no longer just us that make up our society, but also living together with all other citizens that call this islands their own home.
Since it is no longer possible to fall back and move these islands forward as Carolinians and Chamorros only, we all have to recognize the inevitable circumstance that we cannot do that alone. For us to do that, we need to co-exist with all others calling our islands their home.
The time has changed and as Alexander Pope said in his poem, “A little learning is a dangerous thing. Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring.” We have to learn more the understanding that as U.S. citizens we have to live by the paramount clause that all men are created equal. This applies to the Commonwealth as we are now U.S. soil. Do we want to move backwards or move forward? If we are to move forward, please let everybody move forward together hand in hand.
I salute the five statesmen who voted against the resolution that is against the granting of improved status for long-term guest workers. I salute the governor and lieutenant governor. I salute Delegate Kilili. I salute the Senate who will have voted for improved status. This is the group of men who believe that all men are created equal. I salute also all Carolinians and Chamorros that stands on this believe. Si yu’us ma’ase.
