Burglary incident in Garapan
On Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at about 8:57pm, the CNMI Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting a burglary incident at an apartment in Garapan. Police were dispatched to the scene.
Police arrived on scene at about 9:03pm and met with the caller who lives in the neighboring unit. The caller told officers that the neighbor’s unit appears to have been burglarized as the front door was left open, with items and clothing scattered throughout the room. Shortly after, the tenant of the burglarized unit met with officers and confirmed that their apartment had indeed been burglarized. The victim also told the officers that this was the second time that this had happened to their unit. After the first incident, the tenant put up anti-burglar bars around the windows, but forgot to secure the bathroom window before leaving for work.
No items were reported missing to police yet, as an inventory of the apartment has yet to be done.
DPS would like to remind the public to be diligent when purchasing electronics or other valuables from unknown individuals.
