Best Sunshine International, Ltd.’s Corporate Social Responsibility team took part in the 35th annual Northern Marianas College Charter Day, a two-day event that celebrated the success of higher education in the CNMI.

During the celebration, college officials also honored about 70 several college, government and private sector leaders for their continued support. Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres, Imperial Pacific International-Best Sunshine International majority shareholder Margaret Cui Lijie, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, and several lawmakers and private sector leaders were honored for their contributions.

“The CSR group did so many things that NMC couldn’t have done by themselves. They helped clean out our destroyed typhoon buildings. They helped clean our grounds. They actually built us a nice study area for the students, temporary, but a nice gesture,” NMC acting president David Attao said.

Along with the successful 35th Charter Day event, BSI’s CSR team will sponsor and volunteer at the NMC Foundation Golf Tournament, which will take place on April 30 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.

Attao disclosed that the college is now working with BSI for future projects, among others, training programs and classes in partnership with the largest private sector employer in the CNMI.

“We are excited to work with BSI for more projects in the future. Some things to look forward to are the training programs and classes that BSI will be providing here at NMC,” Attao noted. “We continue to appreciate them and their support of our community especially our students and the college as a whole.”

During the two-day NMC event held over-the-weekend, BSI’s CSR team donated resources, manpower, and volunteers to assist NMC to create a fun and successful event for the community.

“BSI has been helping us since the planning stages of this year’s charter day. We’ve had three representatives that have been attending the meetings and providing input. Thank you very much, BSI,” according to NMC Charter Day committee member Cassy Deleon Guerrero.

According to BSI CSR director Rita Chong, CSR and NMC’s partnership was created to bring the Village Pride Project to the college’s Saipan campus.

“We assisted with logistics such as the preparation of the stage decorations, as well as providing the banner that served as the backdrop of the stage,” Chong noted, as she discussed BSI-CSR’s volunteer work that led to the overall successful staging of the 35th NMC Charter Day.

CSR coordinator Chandis Cooper, also known as radio personality Big Mama, served as the event emcee for both days. The event kicked off around 3:30pm with remarks from David Attao and opening prayer from Fr. James Balajadia.

BSI’s participation during this year’s Charter Day went beyond just preparing and volunteering at the event. BSI’s CSR department was also among those who set up booths.

“CSR had a booth providing carnival games for kids. We were also able to recruit BSI volunteers.” Chong added.

Program chair and NMC librarian Greg Sablan, commended BSI for their contributions: “I’m glad that BSI helped us. Everything that they’ve done for us really shows their commitment to community work. They’ve helped us with so many preparations for Charter Day. On behalf of the Charter Day committee, thank you so much for all your help. I hope that we can partner with them again for more future events.” (PR)
