Brush fire wipes out acres of vegetation in Evergreen

A large brush fire torched several acres of vegetation in Evergreen below Mt. Tapochau yesterday.
As of press time, the fire was still raging and lighting up a hill near Kannat Tabla.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services has yet to release information about the wildfire.
Some construction workers who live in Kannat Tabla said they first noticed the fire on a hill at about 3pm.
As of 6pm, firefighters were seen in Kannat Tabla on their way to Evergreen.
The fire was seen burning vegetation from the top to the side of the hill, blowing clouds of fine ash right down to Garapan.
In March 2018, brush fire wiped out 120 acres of vegetation that started in Evergreen and spread to Kannat Tabla hill. DFEMS then stationed their teams on Mt. Tapochau, Kannat Tabla by the Bishop Estate, and another in Papago to monitor the fire’s movement because of its approach to the residential area in Kannat Tabla and Papago.
A string of wildland fires has struck the CNMI since last month, with the islands experiencing drought due to the dry season.
