SAN JOSE, Tinian—The Tinian Bikers Association organized a basketball league composed of talented young men and women. The league is known as BAT for BAD, which stands for Bikers Association of Tinian for Ballers against Drugs.
The group is divided into four teams and a coach assigned to each team. The leading coordinator, Dawn Sarmiento along with the BAT members, took it upon themselves to volunteer their time to share their skill and knowledge about the sport and the importance of staying physically fit. The basketball games are ongoing at the public gym a couple times a week along with scheduled practices in between games.
Bridge Investment Group made a monetary donation of $1,109 to the Tinian Bikers Association to support their efforts. The funds will be used for basic necessities to operate the clinic/league such as the purchase of basketball equipment, uniforms, and trophies. With the help and continued support from the parents and the community and the cooperation of BAT members, Sarmiento hopes to have this clinic/league annually or semi-annually.
“It’s my love for the sport! During the last men’s league, I observed and learned that there are many kids that also love and are interested in playing and learning more which basically led me to the idea of a basketball clinic that also includes the league. You see, my thought is that just because I can no longer play the sport, it doesn’t mean I can no longer be involved and what better way than to share my skills and knowledge with our youth, our kids,” said Sarmiento.
The community needs more volunteers to take proactive approaches in molding our children and BIG is honored and grateful to be a partner in these endeavors. (PR)
